I’ve been playing Bethesda’s Elder Scrolls series for a long time, since Elder Scrolls: Arena back in 1994 on my 486DX2, and I have to admit that I’m excited with the direction the franchise is currently going. When Oblivion came out in 2006, an immense world which was previously restricted to PC gamers was delivered to the eagerly receptive console audience. This new dedicated fanbase combined with an excellent marketing campaign by Bethesda has helped to give Skyrim an incredible launch with almost 4 million copies already sold only a couple weeks after release. Like all Elder Scrolls games, Skyrim is a non-linear stand alone story. The current events are occurring several hundred years after Oblivion and in a frozen province to the north of Cryodil known as Skyrim. The opening is a brutal illustration of the civil unrest following the assassination of the regions previous king. More importantly, the opening is an introduction to your character. The character creation menu allows you to choose one of 10 different races, each with their own unique innate abilities and traits. You will find all of the traditional elves, several different human races, Orcs, as well as the Khajiit and Argonians...
